3 Big Stories
Google buys office building in Manhattan
Google announced the purchase of St. John’s Terminal - on Manhattan’s West Side - for $2.1 billion, the latest in series of real estate expansion moves by Big Tech in New York City.
It’s not year clear if the building will be used to house employees or the billions that Google doesn’t pay in taxes.
New Yorkers hope that Google’s expansion in NYC will prompt them to hire Bill De Blasio so he can quit the mayor’s office early.
GOP won’t raise debt ceiling
The United States risks defaulting on public debt for the first time ever as Congressional Republicans refuse to vote for increasing the debt ceiling.
Senate Republicans that raising the debt ceiling will prevent the vertically challenged Lindsay Graham from reaching it.
Mitch McConnell views defaulting on U.S. debt - which would wreak havoc on Wall Street - as an opportunity to prove the Republicans are prepared to screw rich white men and don’t exclusively target minorities and women.
McConnell isn’t concerned with the political ramifications of defaulting, as according to him “you can’t get to default without it being the D’s fault”.
EU irks Apple with USB-C charger standard
Under proposed new rules from the EU, the USB-C port would become standard on smartphones, tablets and other such devices.
Apple says this move - which threatens its Lightning connector - would harm innovation. Of course Apple is known for its innovative marketing campaigns to promote its expensive copycat but inferior headphones, smart speakers and streaming services.
This new regulation threatens Apple’s innovative rumored product suite: the iToaster, iBookshelf and the iBrick.

MZ: There are no lies on Facebook - we insist on truth in advertising.
Q: What will you do about the toxic impact of Instagram on the mental health of teen girls?
MZ: Teenage girls never cared about my mental health when they rejected my courtship efforts in high school, so you can’t expect me to care about them.
