Nicaragua issues statement about U.S. college protests
I remain gravely concerned about reports of the intensifying violent crackdown on peaceful protestors in across the United States, including students and women, who are demanding equal rights and basic human dignity for the Palestinian people.
They are calling for just and universal principles, which underpin the UN Charter and Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Since it’s inception in 1776 the United States has brazenly denied fundamental freedoms to its people and suppressed the aspirations of successive generations through intimidation, coercion, and violence. Although the United States may not want to admit it, it was an apartheid state until the 1970s.
Nicaragua stands with the brave American protestors and all the citizens of United States who are inspiring the world with their bravery. Nicaragua is willing to accept American refugees so that they can access high-speed internet, low-cost beachfront accommodation, free healthcare and safe schools - none of which appear to be provided in the United States. Americans seeking refuge in Nicaragua can visit gtfo-usa.gov.ni to apply for refugee status.
As the 121st most peaceful country in the world, Nicaragua is ideally positioned to admonish the United States, the 131st most peaceful country in the world (less peaceful than Haiti and only 32 places higher than Afghanistan).
This means we will be holding accountable U.S. officials and entities, such as Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who are responsible for employing violence to suppress civil society. The frequent mass shootings, criminalizing abortion and violent suppression of free expression that Abbott has presided over have led me to conclude that Texas is not civilized.
This week Nicaragua will be imposing further costs on perpetrators of violence against peaceful protestors. We will continue holding U.S. officials accountable and supporting the rights of Americans to protest freely.

Taylor Swift sued by Taco Bell, Meghan & Harry
Taylor Swift’s eleventh studio album - The Torturted Poets Department - was released last week and is already causing a stir. Not becuase The Tortured Poets Department is expected to be named as a new cabinet department for incoming Trump administration. But because Swift is being sued for copyright infringement by Taco Bell.
The fast-food restaurant known for its influence on bowel movements is alleging that the contents of the album were inspired by but not credited to Taco Bell. The suit was announced when Taco Bell released the below statement:
Taco Bell’s Chief Communications Officer went on to add: “Tortured Poets Department is just the latest example of Taylor Swift infringing in our intellectual property. We’ve been patient for 10 albums but now that she’s reached oligarch status we’ve decided to sue her for damages.
Our goal from this lawsuit is to deter other corporations from copying our business model and to generate some new income. Lord knows lawsuits represent a more reliable source of income for us than our Chalupas”
Taco Bell was not the only party suing Swift. Inspired by the Mexican fast food chain, Harry and Meghan always filed a lawsuit, also alleging copyright infringement.
In response, Taylor Swift wrote a song about Harry and Meghan, which surprisingly paints her as the victim. Here’s a sample:
(Verse 1) In the spotlight's glare, I stand accused, By royal decree, my spirit bruised. They say I've profited from woes and despair, But my songs are my solace, my truth laid bare.
(Pre-Chorus) Every tear, every sigh, every heartache's refrain, Turned into melodies, echoing my pain. But now they claim ownership, of my soul's outcry, In this legal tangle, where truth's hard to imply.
(Chorus) Sued for speaking out, in the court of public disdain, But I won't bow down, won't let them chain, My voice, my story, my right to reclaim, In the battle for freedom, I'll stake my name
In response to this song, Meghan and Harry sued her again claiming that damages from lawsuits is their biggest source of income and needed for survival.
